Eyewitness

Are you an eyewitness? Did you see Jesus? Did you hear His voice? Feel His touch?

You say, "of course not! Jesus was on the earth 2000 years ago. I never actually saw Him."

You are right.

You are wrong.

1 John 1:1-4
"That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched - this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. We write this to make our joy complete."

The apostle John wrote these words to believers near Ephesus some 60 to 70 years after he first became a disciple. It had been a long lifetime from the crucifixion and resurrection to his twilight years. Yet he still continued to proclaim the gospel of Christ. He had lived with the Lord. He was compelled to testify to the world about Him. He did this so that his joy would be complete.

Although we did not walk beside Him in Galilee and Judea and did not see Him on the cross, yet we are eyewitnesses to Him also.

We are eyewitnesses to what the life of Christ in us has done. This is our testimony. It is a testimony of salvation, transformation, miracles, and effect.

As John never retired from preaching Christ, we also should never stop proclaiming His name and His story. Never stop giving our testimony.

Telling others of Jesus is the only way to "make our joy complete".
What joy? Joy is found in living out your purpose. A Christian's only purpose is to live a life that glorifies the Lord.

In these days of terror, political upheaval, and moral decline, it is more important than ever that we give our eyewitness testimony to a lost and dying world.

And I write this so that my joy may be complete.
